Staple Alert: The Black Maxi Dress

Happy Tuesday loves! I can’t believe we’re already into September.  I always get new-found motivation and inspiration with the start of a new season (ESPECIALLY fall) and decided to come up with a new type of post series:  Staple alert.  Every once and awhile, I will share style inspiration surrounding various staple pieces that I think every girl should have in their closet.  What better piece to start with than my favorite black maxi dress?

I’m telling you, ladies, you can find one of these ANYWHERE on any budget. This particular dress, I got from a boutique called Pitaya. And let me tell you, this dress is 3-4 years old. And I still wear it: All. The. Time.

Best way to style it? Throw on a statement necklace like this gorgeous necklace from Bauble Bar. Turquoise is my favorite accent color to pair with neutral colored pieces.  It offers that perfect pop of color to this simple black dress. You can honestly rock any statement piece with this though: statement earrings, a scarf, or a jeweled cuff if you want to go for more of a boho-effortless feel.  The easiest way to style a maxi dress? Throw on this jean jacket.  I love this one that I got from Apricot Lane Madison.   This is definitely a staple if you need a lightweight cover up for those chilly fall nights. What I love about this jacket is how stretchy/breathable it is. Definitely my jean jacket go-to.

Other ways to style for fall?

  • Tie a knot on the bottom and style with booties, a scarf, and a leather or suede jacket.
  • Wear a flannel either around the waist or over the top of the dress with gold or silver earrings.
  • Style with an oversized cardigan and a floppy hat or beanie for a cozy look.

Shoot me a comment below and let me know how you would style this black maxi dress. Thanks for stopping by. Hope y’all are staying cool in this end of summer heat!

    1. Thanks Summer!!!

Oh no! Hahaha how tall are you? You
Might be able to go the route of buying one that has a elastic/banded waist that you can roll up/bunch up to the desired length! Otherwise, I know it’s a pain, but hemming it is always an option! 🙂

  1. I’ve never really thought of a black maxi dress as a staple I need, but after this post, I’m sold! You’re dress is styled so cute and it makes me want to go out and buy one!

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by! Black maxi’s are by far the easiest look to rock. Especially when I’m feeling like just being comfy and throwing something on! Thanks for reading!
