Fashion Bloomer of the Month: Kayla

AHH!!! Welcome to the new and improved Bloom Boutique Blog!  I’ve been freaking out all week about this site launch.  I’m excited to finally getting back to writing fashion content for you guys, but it was also really good for me to take a step back and redesign my brand.  I’ve been working so long and hard on this for you guys and I hope you love it as much as I do.  Please let me know what you think; this site is for YOU!

And now…Welcome to my new monthly feature:  Fashion Bloomer of the Month.  This is a space where you become the spotlight.  It’s also a way for you to get a different perspective on style through the eyes of a fellow reader!  One of my good friends suggested this as an idea, and I decided to take it and run with it (shout out to Emily!).

Each month, I will select a reader, friend, fellow blogger, or family member to be featured in a post about their style.  I will interview them and photo them in the outfit they feel embodies their personal style.  After that, I will challenge them to think about something they’ve always wanted to wear but felt they could never pull off.  I will style them and show them that even though they may perceive a certain style as “out of their league”, that they can pull it off in their own way.  My goal for these posts is to show you that you CAN do it and you CAN feel amazing in a style you were scared of.  My ultimate end goal is to show you the versatility of fashion:  that anyone can do it and tailor any trend to fit their personal liking and style.

So, without further a-do, meet January’s Fashion Bloomer of the Month:  Kayla!  Kayla not only happens to be my roommate but is also one of my greatest friends.  It was an honor for me to interview her and shoot with her.  Elizabeth Izzo always has a knack for getting personalities out in photos, and I feel she captured our friendship well.

So, what brought you to Bloom Boutique Blog?

I live with this girl who just so happens to be the founder of the blog.

Tell me a little about yourself and what you do!

I work at a psychiatric hospital working with patients through their therapeutic recovery from all mental disorders, predominantly eating disorders. I also do part time scheduling for the hospital.  My goal is to go back to school and get my masters to be a family marriage counselor.

What do you love about fashion?

I love that you can be anyone you want to be. One day you can be preppy, another you can be casual….you can take on so many different “identities” and helps you find your true self.

How would you describe your personal style?

Business casual/glam. I love pieces that dress up my look.  I always like to look put together.

What’s your go-to fashion piece?

A blazer or jacket. I feel like I can dress it up or dress it down. I can wear it to work, or for a night out.  They’re so versatile!

Check out one of Kayla’s go-to outfits featuring her favorite piece:  a blazer.   I loved rocking it with her in my own way!

Are there any styles that you don’t feel you can “pull off”?

For a while I felt like I couldn’t necessarily pull of rompers and thigh high boots because I’m short. And thigh high boots can eat you up!

How did you feel after being styled and being photo’d in that outfit?

I felt good! I realized that I like rompers, and I found a pair of knee high boots that were the right height for my legs and made me feel super confident.

Has this experienced changed the way you view your personal style?

I’m definitely going to keep buying rompers! And incorporate them with my jackets.  I just feel more confident!

Thank you so much Kayla for agreeing to be my first featured fashion bloomer of the month.  You look absolutely beautiful in these shots and I feel they embody your fun-loving, selfless, and stunning personality.  Another special thank you to the woman behind the magic and fellow #girlboss, Elizabeth Izzo.  You are a rock-star and have such a gift for capturing personality behind your shots.
