More Transitional Fashion: The Fall Maxi Skirt

I know it’s been an interesting week with the election and all, and quickly, I just really want to stress the importance of loving one another and treating everyone with respect and how you’d want to be treated.  That is the only way we can truly band together and create change. That is all.  Now on to the post!

We’ve been so blessed here in Wisconsin with some amazing fall weather lately with temperatures in the high 50’s-60’s. Usually in early November I’m getting ready to pull out my winter parka, so I’ve been really enjoying this change! Today I wanted to share an outfit with you that is perfect for these warmer fall days and it incorporates a style that is typically only taken advantage of in spring and summer months: the maxi skirt.

I love this wine chiffon maxi skirt (belt separate) from Forever 21. It looks super cute with anything from a summer crop top, to a long sleeve shirt like I chose to pair it with for this outfit. Because of the pop of color the skirt provides, I’d recommend neutral colors on top to balance out the color. I chose a black and white striped shirt for this, but you could wear grey, white, tan, cream, or even navy with this skirt.

I got this cute wool hat from Apricot Lane Peoria. I typically am not a big hat girl, but I saw this online and thought it was adorable and fit my style. It looks perfect with all my fall dresses, and I thought the gold detailing on it added an extra boho flare (which definitely caters to my personal style).  I also pulled out my Anthropologie layered choker necklace I got from my trip to Chicago for this look too. I thought it tied together the gold in the hat well and added even more to the boho flare of this look.  Lastly, I finished off the OOTD with my oversized fringe purse.  I LOVE big purses.  I’m more of a hoarder myself, so I love being able to fit everything I need in my purse.  The fringe detailing is the finishing touch on this relaxed style.

I typically wore this skirt with scrappy sandals, but decided to try out rocking my maxi with some booties. I was originally thinking that the booties would be too overbearing and overwhelm the look of the long skirt. Once I tried it though I ended up really loving the look.  I thought the taupe color really played up the brightness of the skirt and it also added some warmth to my feet to help the transitional aspect of this style.

Hope you all enjoyed this look! Here are a couple more ways for you to style your favorite maxi skirt for fall.

  • Denim shirts or jean jackets look great with both neutral and darker/deeper colored maxi skirts. Throw one on and style with a statement necklace or a neutral fall scarf.
  • Wear a neutral top and your leather jacket to give an edgier look to your skirt.
  • Wear a short or long sleeved looser fitting crop top, add a black or brown belt to the waist of your skirt, and style with a scarf, wool hat, or jacket for warmth.
  • Style with a chunky, knit, cropped sweater on top with your fall booties.

Which of these looks do you plan to try?  Do you have any other suggestions that I could try?  Leave them below!

♥ Leah
